I got a galaxy note 3 from my friend who does not like the idea of rooted phone.
Any ways, my friend gave me the phone after factory resetting phone.
When I logged in to Play Store using my google account, it automatically started updating apps (google apps, samsung apps). But during that process SuperSU got installed as well.
After that I realized that when I checked the Device Status it said "Custom".
And now I can't update the phone to lollipop because the "Device has been modified..."
This phone is SMN900W8 from Bell (Canadian).
When I first got the I did not see SuperSU after factory reset, but now superSu is always there even after factory reset.
Unfortunately I do not know the full history of this phone and obviously I am having some trouble understanding what is going on here so, here's my questions:
0. Base on the information above is it more likely that the phone was already modified?
1. If I downloaded SuperSU through Play Store on my other rooted device, is this kind of behavior expected as describe above?
2. Does installing the SuperSU make my Device Status "Custom"?
3. Since " I " have not rooted the phone is there a way to change back the Device Status from "Custom" or is flash a stock firmware the best option?
4. I want to upgrade to Android v.5.0 from Android v.4.4.2 before rooting my phone. I was thinking that I should flash stock firmware, use software update to android v.5.0 then use CF-Auto-root to root my Galaxy Note 3. Does that sound ideal, or is there some better way?
