I rooted my Note years ago using CFRoot.

files you might need: Kies 2 + ODIN3.07 + TWRP + ROM zip files

Tricky thing: the latest TWRP from Google Play won't work on my phone,
so I used ODIN 3.07 to install open recovery TWRP , also used an old version of TWRP 2.7.1.0 ,

After successfully installed TWRP, things will be easier, follow the video using Rogers Modem/Radios zip files
to flash ROM downgrade to: I317MVLALJ2

You also need to install Kies from Samsung to make ODIN work, which is mentioned in the original thread.
If you use a PC, make sure you use USB com port on the back, not the front ones.
