OnePlus X Dual SIM performance

Hi, I've just got OP X which I mostly bought as a backup phone and for the dual SIM functionality. I know OP X is listed as DSDS. I a mixed up how this works since browsing the net I found different opinions. I hope both cards are in standby but both can receive calls.
I am with Virgin Mobile and I have two numbers with them so I tried to test how the dual SIMs functionality works. I placed the two SIM cards in the tray and the first thing I learned is that only one is active at time. The network icons shows only one being active. The SIM 1 is active and picked up VM network but the name displayed is 302620, which is another cryptic name for Bell network. SIM 2 stays inactive and any call directed to goes directly into the voice mail box. When I tried to force SIM 2 to pick up a carrier, the only one that discovered was ... Rogers Wireless 2 G!!!
To make short a long story, I can use only one SIM at time. I have to switch manually between the SIMs. When I did that, SIM 2 became active on VM LTE, or 302620 4G, while SIM 1 became inactive.
What is your experience? Hope it's not my mobile problem, but a SW bug that could be fixed in the future. Anyway, I am looking forward to hear about your experience and please send any advice. Thanks.
