I cant install TWRP / CWM and I have no idea why

I have installed lots of custom software on my previous devices with no dramas at all.

I have a new N910G, for some reason I cannot install TWRP or cwm from odin, it all looks good when flashing, system reboots and its stock recovery still ?!?!.

I am unable to root this device either as its on 5.1.1 and I cannot find any tips on rooting a G variant that does not involve installing twrp or cwm first

Any ideas?
