How To Play N64 Games On Android

How To Play N64 Games On Android

It's been a while since I've played a good round of "Slappers-only" in the facilities level of Goldeneye for the N64. It's the one thing slap-related from my childhood that hasn't ruined my life. Well you can revisit games like these without having to buy a used N64 off of ebay. You can use an emulator for Android that will let you load old N64 games right on your phone. But before I show you all the steps to make this possible, check out the disclaimer.

///Please only load games that you have previously purchased. Don't be a thief and pirate anything that you shouldn't. There's no posting bail in guantanamo bay.///

So we will first start by downloading an emulator app from the Play store. This will create a virtual environment on your phone that emulates the N64 system. I'll save you some time and list the best ones here.

MegaN64
We will start off with the highest rated N64 emulator on the Play store. This app is pretty straight forward as just a basic emulator. It runs well and gives you everything you need to play your N64 ROMs.

Mupen64
This app is great as a free option with no ads or anything like that. While the app is still in beta mode, it's one of the post popular and highest rated at the moment. The developer says "There are still many graphical, lag, and audio problems, even on modern devices." but honestly all emulators are going to have bugs. It's just the nature of this sort of thing.

N64 ROMs
So pick one of the apps from above and we will move on to ROMs. So what is an N64 ROM? Well we can't stick an old cartridge into our phone, you silly goose. We will be using game ROMs that come in .n64, .v64, or .z64 format but are usually packaged in .zip files. Where do you get these ROMs? Good questions, let's talk about that.

PD ROMs
This website has tons of games for free. These websites will host ROMs for all kinds of systems. Just select the N64 section to view the games that will be compatible with your app.

Emuparadise
This is another great website that you can use for free. It's doesn't look like it's updated very often but it does have a nice large library of games.

Once you've downloaded the ROM for the game that you want. Just fire up your emulator app and load it.

So there is everything you need to run N64 games on your Android device. Have fun!
