android tablets can not see wifi networks???? what use are they then?

if android tablets can not see wifi networks whats the purpose of buying one?

ipads can connect to wifi

i would love input on this ...as i bought an android tablet and it does not see my wifi network at all and my ipad and laptop both see and connect to my wifi network fine
